We sweat-tested the new smartwatches set to elevate your health and fitness in 2019

Men's Health (UK) - - Agenda -

The next generation of smartwatches is here. The latest devices come equipped with new sensors, algorithms and accompanying mobile apps. Big Tech wants to make fitness a lifestyle, in which calories burned, miles run, meetings scheduled and Whatsapp updates ignored are given equal billing. And, according to the experts, it’s these extra features that make smartwatches a more effective training partner than their fitness tracker predecessors. Their well-rounded offerings more easily suck you into the Matrix, inside which health and fitness are now major pillars. Which is good news for your fitness ambitions this year.

But in such a saturated wearables market, you need to know that your weighty investment is a good one. And so, to ensure that the addition of shiny new apps has not detracted from this technology’s tracking touchstones, we clocked in with the digital experts at the Good Housekeeping Institute (GHI). Pavements were pounded and strongman classes were crushed until an edit of the best wrist tech emerged, whatever your fitness levels, ambitions or budget. Prepare to be upgraded.
