IT’S DARK AND COLD. CAN I SWITCH MY MORNING 5K FOR A HOME WORKOUT?

How do I purge my post-Christmas paunch – without the need for a head torch and mittens?

Ha, ha. Well, remember that running is simply moving large muscle groups repetitively. There are ways you can do that in your front room.

Do you mean setting up an indoor gym? The other half has vetoed a treadmill in front of the TV…

No equipment required. All you need is a bodyweight circuit centred on explosive exercises.

Gulp. You don’t mean…

Yes, burpees. (Sorry.) Followed by press-ups, squat star jumps, mountain climbers and jumping lunges. Do 40 seconds of each at high intensity. Give yourself 20 seconds’ rest after each move. See if you can hold on for five rounds.

I guess 20 minutes is less time than it takes to do a 5K. Thanks!

I’d wait until you thank me...

OK, I’m SWEATING. My belly doesn’t stand a chance.
