FRESH-FACED FIXER-UPPERS

With new breakouts prevented, here are three ways to deal with the acne you may already have

-

01 RETINOL

“Everyone should be using retinol,” says Hartman. “It’s the best way to manage acne and prevent it from coming back.” Retinol, a derivative of vitamin A, helps to exfoliate and aids cell turnover, which is why it’s so common in anti-ageing products.

02 EXFOLIATING ACIDS

Salicylic and glycolic acids can help remove dead cells and acnecausing build-up from within your pores. Salicylic acid is typically used for acne but can be irritating and drying; if it’s rough on your skin, try the gentler glycolic acid.

03 BENZOYL PEROXIDE

This helps to kill acnecausing bacteria called P acnes, which live in your pores. “However, it can be a little inflammatory,” says Henry, and can also lead to dryness. Start cautiously by using a benzoyl peroxide cleanser every few days.
