ZACK GEORGE

-

CROSSFIT ATHLETE

The UK’s fittest man joins our elite line-up to dispense the advice you need to make this your biggest, most gainful year ever

■ The country’s top CrossFit athlete and “the UK’s Fittest Man” didn’t start out that way. Overweight as a child and addicted to Haribo and McDonald’s, George turned his mindset and physique around, having set himself the goal of competing in the CrossFit Games after a YouTube video inspired him in 2013. Last year, the pandemic robbed him of the invite he had earned. He might be an elite athlete now, but George knows exactly what it takes to transform your fitness and deal with the setbacks.

■ Favourite workout

It would have to be the CrossFit benchmark workout “DT”. Five rounds with a 70kg barbell of 12 deadlifts, nine hang power cleans and six shoulder-to-overheads.

■ Least favourite move

Pistol squats, because I’ve got flat feet and I’m a “bigger” athlete!

■ Rest day looks like…

A treat day. When I’m in the competitive season, I won’t have any bad food as my nutrition. But in the off season, it switches to

100% doughnuts.
