ATLANTIC CHRONOSCOPE – SPIRIT

- marloewatchcompany.com £975

To soar into the sky and float aloft in the wind, peering down on the world below, knowing that, if you so wished, you could touch the stars.

Welcome to the Atlantic Chronoscope by Marloe Watch Company, borne from a love of flight, inspired by the pioneering spirits that risked life and limb to achieve it. The Atlantic range traverses flight through the ages, from the first one-way hop across the Atlantic Ocean by Alcock and Brown, to the first solo Atlantic crossing by Lindbergh, each colourway celebrates each milestone.

The Spirit takes inspiration from the Spirit of St Louis aircraft that carried Lindbergh over the Atlantic in 1927, on the first solo nonstop transatlantic flight from New York to Paris.

With its traditional “Flieger” aviation style, the Spirit applies a raw aluminium aesthetic, inspired by Lindbergh’s aircraft. The design of the numerals on the Flyer also takes direct inspiration from the altimeter, with the tangential 4-8 numbers.

The Spirit features sword-profile hands with high-contrast paints to maximise legibility and ease of time-telling. Each sub-dial features one of two hand styles — the running second hand matches the main hour and minute hand finish, whilst for the Chronoscope functions, the sub-dial and timed second hands are painted in a separate style to differentiate the two functions of the Atlantic timepiece. It’s subtle and perhaps, to some, imperceptible. But it’s there for a reason — and that’s the MWC way.
