An active ingredient in green tea, L-theanine has a similar effect on the brain to alcohol. It influences neurotrans­mitters, leading to a temporary reduction in stress and anxiety, which kicks in within 30 minutes to an hour, and may even promote good sleep. Brew a couple of decaf teabags overnight, then serve chilled with ice and a squeeze of lemon (this improves absorption).
