WHY DOES ANTICULT SEEM TO BE SUCH A HUGE LEAP FOR DECAPITATED?

“On this album the band have sounded far more together and complete. I wrote Blood

Mantra just by myself, but on Anticult, having had input from all of the bandmembers together has made it a far more rounded record. Also, after Blood Mantra’s release we toured relentlessly all over the world, and if you play that many shows in succession it’s a massive learning curve, which in turn equates to lessons learnt for the next album. All of these things together have provided Anticult with the perfect formula.

I’m super-happy with it in every possible aspect!”

WAS THERE AN INTENTION TO WRITE THE RIFFS WITH MORE HOOKS AND GROOVE?

“Of course there are aggressive songs, riffs and lots of other components, but it’s certainly the grooviest album we’ve ever made, and I think this sound works really well live. A good groove is not always easy to find and it’s what we were searching for in Anticult. Groove is not a strict style; we are still an extreme metal band and I think the groove makes us even heavier than before.”

YOU HAVE BEEN A BIG INFLUENCE ON THE DEATH METAL SCENE SINCE YOUR DEBUT. IS THIS SOMETHING YOU’RE NOW AWARE OF?

“I didn’t think about it as such, but sometimes I do feel some kind of pressure or a responsibility as people were waiting for the new album. But as we see it, if the riffs and the songs sound good to us we’re not afraid. It’s very cool that we are able to influence other people and can use our music to inspire someone or change someone’s life, or to even just give them a cool day!”
