WAS AN ALBUM ALWAYS THE PLAN WHEN YOU REUNITED?

“No. When we got back together we wanted to see if we could get along without the pressure of writing and just play shows. Then we thought we’d do an EP and see what happens.”

WAS THERE A LOT OF PRESSURE IN DELIVERING YOUR FIRST ALBUM IN 11 YEARS?

“I think we felt huge amounts of pressure to better our previous albums. I was always the main vocal writer and I write all the lyrics, so not a lot’s changed. I decided to make everything very hooky the whole way through. That is a challenge with such complex music and rhythms to write to. Joe did a great job on singing, though.”

WHERE HAS THE LYRICAL INSPIRATION COME FROM?

“I take inspiration every day in life. I do often look to the past then also to dreams and to fantasy worlds of escapism. If I am in a country where I see poverty and suffering, that will affect me and I’ll write about it. If I’m dwelling in heartbreak I will also write about that. Even in the song Vivid I ask my traumatic dreams to stop. I feel this album took a lot out of me personally. I hope people give it a good listen and read.”

HOW HAVE ALL THE PROJECTS BANDMEMBERS HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN SHAPED SIKTH SINCE YOUR RETURN?

“Well, my Outside The Coma has taken a break for now. I want to bring it back at some point. I also want to do something for Primal Rock Rebellion, too. Dan Foord and James are in Krokodil – they’re playing Download and have a new album coming out. Joe Rosser and Pin are still in Aliases, but everyone’s first priority must be Sikth.”
