WHAT’S THE MOST ILLEGAL THING YOU’VE EVER DONE?

“When I was 15 years old, I helped renovate a chapel in my village. I found a very old Bible from the 18th century – from 1792, I think. I would say I borrowed the Bible. I still have it today – I used it when we did the photoshoot for our latest album, Blessed & Possessed!

I’ve told God that I’ll give it back this year.”

WHAT’S THE MOST METAL ALBUM YOU OWN?

“Jim Dandy – Ready As Hell. It has a brilliant cover. Jim, the singer, is standing in a mountain and it looks really scary. I always put it on the table when I write for a new album… he inspires me! But no, honestly, it’d probably be Piece Of Mind by Iron Maiden. But Jim

Dandy, too! Google it!”

WHAT’S THE WORST INJURY YOU’VE EVER HAD?

“We were playing football in Russia on tour. I was in defence and a very hard ball hit my hand. I went to the doctor and nothing was broken, but it was almost black.

It’s fine now, but it was really hard to pose and play in the show.”

WHAT’S THE MOST YOU’VE EVER BEEN SICK?

“One day after a bottle of Jack Daniel’s, I had to vomit out of the bus and there was a queue outside, so yeah, they just saw the keyboard player vomiting everywhere.

A whole bottle of

Jack Daniel’s… never again.”

WHAT’S THE GROSSEST THING YOU’VE EVER HAD IN YOUR MOUTH?

“I’m always careful with such things, especially on tour! But we played a show in France and I ordered sausage… it was made of turkey innards. It had everything in it – brain and I don’t know what else. I couldn’t eat it.”

WHAT’S THE WORST FIGHT YOU’VE EVER BEEN IN?

“This is a serious story, actually. I was beaten up by some US soldier. I was out at a party in Trier, Germany’s oldest city. I was standing outside on the street and this car stopped, and there was this American Military Base sticker on the car… next thing, I wake up without teeth! I did a lot of things to try and get some justice but it wasn’t possible to find them. More and more things like that started happening to other people around that time. But it’s OK, I can eat again now.”

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU BLED?

“To be honest, I don’t know. That’s not very metal but I can’t remember, I’m sorry!”

WHAT’S THE RAREST PIECE OF MERCHANDISE YOU OWN?

“I have an old Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son Iron Maiden shirt. It’s my favourite of their albums and that shirt isn’t even black anymore, it’s grey. On the back it’s just Eddie, really small, drawn in blue lines. I really love that shirt.”

WHAT’S BEEN YOUR MOST PAINFUL TATTOO OR PIERCING?

“I don’t have any! I always used to want a tattoo like Steve Harris – the Trooper on his forearm. I saw that when I got the Piece Of Mind album and since then I’ve always said I want it, but now everyone has tattoos, I don’t know if

I’ll get it.”

SHOW US THE MOST METAL PICTURE ON YOUR PHONE

“We played a show in Austria, in the middle of nowhere, and me and our drummer, Roel [van Helden] went for a walk and found an alpaca! I don’t know if alpacas are metal, but their ears look like devil horns. His facial expression just fits heavy metal music. It’s perfect. He did it in the first take, too.”
