Brock and the boys bring lanterns to our island
Your latest album,
lanterns, came out in september. How’s it been going down live?
BROCK LINDOW (VOCALS): “It’s been wonderful! We’ve been out on the road for three months and now the album’s been out for a couple weeks, everybody’s been singing the words to the new songs. That’s been very cool. We were playing new songs prior to release, a lot of bands don’t do that. We wanted to test the waters and have fun with the new stuff at the same time, so it’s cool now seeing the crowd reacting to the songs.”
How manY songs from it will You plaY wHen You Hit tHe uK next Year?
“We’re doing five now on our [US] headliner, so I assume we’ll do that again. Maybe one or two more, who knows? But we’re doing about an hour, hour and 15 minutes per night now for a headline set, so we try and get a good balance of the old and new.”
is tHat a Hard balance to get rigHt?
“That’s the challenge, right? You know you’re not gonna satisfy everybody. There’s gonna be songs that certain people want that you won’t play, but for the most part, I think we got the hits in there.”
wHat’s tHe best tHing about plaYing tHe uK?
“We first came over in 2002 and since then, there’s been this really loyal fanbase that’s never really been away, so there’s definitely that feeling of gratefulness whenever we get a chance to come over again. Plus we always know what we’re gonna get: packed rooms with people singing along and just a really friendly atmosphere. It’s just a killer place! There are certain towns you go to and you have all these memories from over the years. London is always amazing, Manchester, Bristol… just so many cool towns! And after 15 years of shows there, you definitely start to remember faces. The kind of guys we are, we’re very accessible and easy to find at the bar, so we’ve met a lot of these people and a lot of them have become our friends over the years. So there’s definitely a big impact on us whenever we come over every couple of years.”
