n musical terms, the evolutionary process Agrimonia have undergone since their last album is more than apparent in every sparkling, immersive minute of Awaken. The band’s distinctive blend of exploratory post-metal and Bolt Thrower bludgeon remains largely in tact on the new record, but in keeping with its lyrics’ outward-looking essence, this is a much more expansive and, most surprisingly, accessible work than anything the Swedes have done before. Long-time fans need not fret about an impending bid for commercial glory, however.

“Oh, of course, it has to be heavy and we all still love Bolt Thrower!” Christina laughs.

“So it’s good to have a bit of that still. I would never start singing in a clean voice either. That’s a definite no-no for me, and so I guess my voice is just a part of the heavy style that we like, too. We still think that the new record sounds like Agrimonia but with more of everything, more of the dark and more of the light.”

Living, breathing, snarling proof that heavy music can be an act of catharsis and a force for hope, Agrimonia will take Awaken out on the road late in 2018. Time for the whole world to wake the fuck up.

“Maybe it’s not so crystal clear what my lyrics mean because I just want to people to feel something,” Christina concludes. “I hope people can find their light in the tunnel and be uplifted, even when it’s dark.”
