‘FAST’ EDDIE CLARKE: 1950-2018

-

The rock and metal world was saddened last month by the death of former Motörhead guitarist ‘Fast’ Eddie Clarke, who passed away following a battle with pneumonia. Seen here

(far left) with Motörhead bandmates Lemmy and Phil ‘Philthy Animal’ Taylor, alongside Girlschool, on tour in France in 1980, Eddie was a part of the 1976-82 ‘Golden Era’ that produced classics like Overkill (’79), Bomber (’79) and, of course, Ace Of Spades (’80). While he left the band in 1982, going on to form Fastway, his work with Motörhead means that his impact on heavy music remains immeasurable. His passing also means that the full ‘classic era’ line-up are all no longer with us.

Surviving Motörhead members Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee – who both played in the band’s most recent incarnation – offered tribute.

“He will be remembered for his iconic riffs and was a true rock’n’roller,” said Phil, with Mikkey adding: “Now Lem and Philthy can jam with Eddie again.”

Rest In Power, Eddie. We will never see your like again.
