New Yorkers set to shatter Brixton and Arctangent

-

You’ve plaYed Brixton Before – what was it like?

JUSTIN BECK (GUITAR): “Generally on tour, everyone has technical issues, travel problems or logistics that suck all the fun out of it, but playing Brixton Academy in 2007 was massive for us. Everything worked that night, plus we had delicious Lebanese food afterwards, so it’ll be great to play that venue again in August.”

You’re also headlining arctangent. let’s just hope it isn’t as rainY as 2016’s download set…

“Yeah! It was pouring when we got there so everyone was running for cover through our set. It was wet, cold and depressing but it worked out because we had delicious food after, and that’s all that matters to us! The amount of rain and how the ground instantly became sheer mud was crazy. The British are much more resilient than us, so we just get on with things.”

what strange shit goes on at glassjaw shows?

“In LA in 2016, a guy got onstage, got naked and danced in front of me. He tried to jump over security so they grabbed his pants around his ankles and he bodyslammed onto the stage – the sound when he landed was the most violent sound in the world. And in Vegas, a disabled guy was watching sidestage in his wheelchair. Midway through the set, someone wheeled him out to the middle of the stage right behind Daryl [Palumbo, frontman] and he sat there awkwardly for what felt like 15 minutes. I’m not saying the guy was an asshole, but you don’t go sit on someone’s stage.”

how does darYl cope with juggling his crohn’s disease with touring?

“It’s been a lot to learn for a young guy with a new disease; he’s taken on so many medicines and lifestyle changes so he’s mastering it gradually. It’s the worst sensation when we’re stranded in the middle of nowhere in Scotland and he’d have a situation, because we don’t know anything about international healthcare and insurances or how safe it is to get him home. He’s a tough cookie; he’s sat in foreign hospitals alone when we couldn’t stay with him. He’s been given a duff hand but he’s a trooper.”
