APC’s discography revisited
Mer De Noms
VIRGIN – 2000
More accessible than Tool, APC made an intimate altrock debut touching on relationships, which leaned towards ‘feminine energy’. It ranged from Maynard’s anger at organised religion following his mother’s stroke to the release felt in self-pleasure.
Thirteenth Step
VIRGIN – 2003
With a name referring to the 12-Step Program, Thirteenth Step explored addiction, and overdosing in a typically affective way. The likes of The Package and The Noose weren’t as heavy as their predecessors, but high-anguished drama remained in Pet and Blue.
EMOTIVE
VIRGIN – 2004
Hit and miss anti-war covers, with Imagine reimagined as a blank industrial dirge and Devo’s Freedom Of Choice beefed up. Sole original – and standout – track Passive was a reworking of a song by Tapeworm, a project of Trent Reznor and Danny lohner.
AMOTION
VIRGIN – 2004
EMOTIVE’s counterpart featured remixes of APC songs, which mostly sucked out their vital signs. It featured two nondescript versions of
3 Libras, but Paz lechantin’s vocals on The Hollow (Constantly Consuming Mix) were an interesting addition.
