“When I was 16 I stole a pack of cigarettes. I got busted and had to spend a night in juvenile [detention center].”

“Probably …And Justice For All. There’s no bass and that’s lame, but, as far as quintessential, defining metal in my catalogue, that’s it.”
WHAT’S THE WORST INJURY YOU’VE EVER HAD?
“I broke my right pinkie. I was wasted on Jack Daniel’s, there were these fold-up wooden chairs, and I was messing with the tour manager for one of the other bands, like, ‘Let’s smash these chairs together!’ We smashed them and, because they were folding chairs, my pinkie slid between the legs and basically snapped in half.”
WHAT’S THE GROSSEST THING YOU’VE EVER HAD IN YOUR MOUTH?
“I was in an elevator going to the office of my publisher. I had the flu and I coughed up this oyster-sized loogie just as the door opens. My publisher’s in front of me, so I had to swallow it. I think I probably turned a couple shades of white.”
WHAT’S THE MOST YOU’VE EVER BEEN SICK?
“We were on tour and had a night off, and they had a famous chef staying at the hotel. I ordered pâté on toast for dinner that night in my room. At about 2:30am I went into the most violent vomiting and diarrhoea of my life! I defecated and threw up at the same time for about eight hours.”
WHAT’S THE WORST FIGHT YOU’VE EVER BEEN IN?
“We were at a charity event for cancer. This event took place in a tent between two bars, so it was just people getting shithoused. As we were walking out, this guy just starts going off. He was obviously drunk and he had a six-year-old kid on his shoulders! He puts his kid down and I see him charging for Barry [Kersch, drums]. I turn and sweep him, but as he falls he punches Eric [Bass, bass]!”
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME THAT YOU BLED?
“A week ago. I hadn’t brushed my teeth all day and when I brushed them that night some blood came from my gums.”
WHAT’S THE RAREST PIECE OF MERCHANDISE THAT YOU OWN?
“When I was 14, my dad introduced me to Otis Redding. Years later, when I was on tour, a friend brought me a contract signed by Otis and his manager. There aren’t many Otis signatures out there because he passed so early. I did own it, but
I gave it to my dad.”
WHAT’S YOUR MOST PAINFUL TATTOO OR PIERCING?
“My stomach tattoo. It took two pints of vodka to get me through it.”
WHAT’S THE MOST METAL PICTURE ON YOUR PHONE?
“In 2006 we played 11 festival shows with Velvet Revolver. I have a picture of me and Slash. I’m flipping the bird and Slash is drinking out of a Crown Royal bottle.”
