MIGHTY MUSIC SUNDERLAND’S HEAVY METAL INSTITUTION SHARPEN THEIR SENSES

Proud figureheads of the NENWOBHM – that’s North East NWOBHM – Blitzkrieg have reformed a number of times around vocalist Brian Ross, who is currently pulling double shifts with the glorious resurgence of Satan; their 2013 LP, Life Sentence, is the ultimate NWOBHM comeback album. Judge Not! goes from beefed-up modern metal bruisers like the opening brace of Heretic and Who Is Blind through to the pure 80s of Loud And Proud, replete with chanting midsection: clearly aimed at a 1985 Monsters Of Rock crowd participation. Wide Legged And Headless also invokes big 80s hair but with modern, in-your-face guitar tones. Those looking for the authentic retro sounds of Neat records circa 1981 should look elsewhere (Sweden probably), but if you want the spirit of the 80s with modern production values then Judge Not! is a good bet.
