Johansson & Speckmann
FROM THE MOUTH OF MADNESS SOULSELLER
ULTRA-PROLIFIC DEATH METAL GUITARIST PUTS IN ANOTHER DAY AT THE OFFICE
It’s not even summer yet but Swedish machine Rogga Johansson has already taken part in half a dozen albums – with as many more to come – released in 2018, among them this, his fourth collaboration with 54year-old death metal pioneer Paul Speckmann from Master, even if the two have yet to meet in person. With the Swede happy just to regurgitate an umpteenth variation on Grave’s Into The
Grave riff template without blinking alongside his esteemed yet clearly-not-very-concernedabout colleague, this feels like another mid-paced old-school death metal album until guest shredder Kjetil Lynghaug saves the day. No wonder Rogga has enrolled him for some of his most recent ventures (Paganizer, Echelon, Stass), his melodic and emphatic leads providing a morethan-welcome breath of fresh air in what remains an immediately edible yet easily forgettable album for Paganizer and
Master maniacs only.
