END TIMES DRY COUGH
GLASWEGIAN DRONE MERCHANTS HERALD A MONOTONOUS APOCALYPSE
Recorded by the mercurial Billy Anderson, Ommadon’s latest doom crawl, End Times, is comprised of one continuous piece split between two sides. Side A unfurls with the same sloth-like gait as Sunn O))), as a repetitious, lumbering riff cleaves a path, while Middle-Easternphrased leads encircle it early on. The drums then enter as the quaking riff takes on additional weight, hammering the same theme over and over to the point of hypnotism… or boredom, depending on your capacity for this kind of fundamentalist drone. Deep growls take a surprising lead as the first side closes out. Side B – the more interesting and tense half – includes some pained shrieks among Ommadon’s attempts at summoning the apocalypse through one-dimensional amplifier abuse. Overall, it may not be as engrossing as 2014’s sprawling double album V, but it’s certainly a fitting addition to Ommadon’s misanthropic discography.
