BAD WOLVES

Disobey

Metal Hammer (UK) - - Reviews - STEPHEN HILL

ELEVEN SEVEN MUSIC US modern metal bigwigs throw some twists into the template

For fans of a certain style, Bad Wolves have some serious pedigree, including ex-members of God Forbid, Devildriver and In This Moment as well as sometime 5FDP vocalist Tommy Vext. Given this information you probably already know what to expect from Disobey, and for the most part it follows the US radio metal blueprint of floor-punching riffs, naked aggression and overly earnest, emoted clean choruses. But there’s enough here to suggest that Bad Wolves might be one of the more musically ambitious and accomplished bands the genre has thrown up in a while. Run For Your Life manages to take Priest-style classic heavy metal and underpin it with some djenty prog time signatures and, although we’re bored of lyrics about ‘bitches pulling triggers’ in 2018, Tommy puts in an impressively varied vocal performance. There’s promise here enough to run with these wolves into album number two. FOR FANS OF: MUDVAYNE, HEART OF A COWARD, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH
