IMPENDING DOOM
The Sin And Doom Vol II
LONG BRANCH Californian bruisers obey the deathcore gospel
While its blueprint has remained largely rigid for more than a decade, deathcore, when executed correctly, still has the ability to deliver a sledgehammer to the cranium and gut multiple times per album. That’s the strength of Impending Doom, who have built a career on waiting in plain sight ready to launch the next feral assault through their sluggish but effective mid-paced riffing. Despite the fact this Christian band describe their sound as ‘gorehip’, there’s very little to differentiate them from thousands of other bands of their ilk, though there are a few attempts to diversify their racket through the added tempo of EVIL and Paved With Bones’ infectious bounce, War Music’s more technical range of dynamics that emerge from an eerie swamp and the multifaceted closer Run For Your Life (She Calls)’s social commentary sounds like a serial killer’s confession.
