TRANSCANADIAN ANGER TOTEM CAT SLUDGY CANADIAN SCUMBAGS FLIP THEIR LID IN DEAFENING STYLE

Metal Hammer (UK) - - Reviews - OLIVIER BADIN KEZ WHELAN

As well as being a chucklesome pun, the title of these Montreal sludgers’ fifth full-length works at face value too, as this is probably the most vitriolic and aggressive record Dopethrone have put out so far. The knuckle-dragging grooves and syrupy, Southern-fried licks are still here in abundance, but the trio sound more focused and savage than before on cuts like Scuzzgasm and the bowel-shaking Wrong Sabbath. Maybe new drummer Shawn has reignited the band’s spark, or maybe it’s just the trials and tribulations that come with being a touring sludge band, but whatever it is, Transcanadian Anger sounds positively enraged throughout. There’s nothing here that’s going to reinvent the wheel of course, but if you’re looking for big, dumb, satisfying riffs to soundtrack your inebriated summer BBQs, then this will deliver in spades.
