YOU’RE GOING HOME IN A BRUTAL SLAMBULANCE…

Metal Hammer (UK) - - Reviews - DOM LAWSON

That irresistible substrain of heaviness known as brutal slamming death metal has steadily grown in stature over the last 20 or so years. Out-blasting their UK peers from the start, Ingested have long threatened to assert their authority worldwide and The Level Above Human is precisely the album they needed to make. From the mad-eyed assault of opener Sovereign onwards, every last moment feels like brutal slam has been given the ultimate upgrade. These are easily the finest songs Ingested have written, full of fluid tempo shifts, ingenious beatdowns and even a handful of undeniable, fat-ass hooks. Invidious is a mid-tempo crusher of epic proportions; Misery Leech is a pitch-black and pit-friendly revenge attack; Better Off Dead is so fucking heavy and hostile it surely can’t be legal. Easily the equal of those seminal Internal Bleeding and Dying Fetus records, if not their superior, this nonemore-grand slam is an instant, visceral classic.
