heART OF A cOWARD
FROM SORROW TO SERENITY/ LOTUS EATER/HARBINGER
BOSTON MUSIC ROOM, LONDON
Deathcore dynamos enter the post-Jamie Graham era
HARBINGER [7] KICK
off a night of brutality and tech metal wizardry in reassuringly savage style. Next up,
LOTUS EATER’S [7] set is short but their deep, djent-fuelled grooves leave a lasting impression. FROM SORROW TO
SERENITY [8] hold nothing back, working themselves and the crowd into a frenzy on a harrowing The Way Back. This is HEART OF A COWARD’S [8] first run of shows with their new frontman, No Consequence’s Kaan Tasan, and the nerves are understandable. Not only from Kaan, but the band and a sold-out crowd, who are both eager and apprehensive to see if the band can flourish without the presence of revered ex-frontman Jamie Graham. latest single Collapse was met with a mixed reaction on its release and Kaan has some intimidatingly big boots to fill, but tonight he and the band stop any misgivings in their tracks. Opening with hallmark Hollow gives him the chance to show off his full range straight out of the gate, switching between guttural lows, raw screams and melodic cleans with ease. after a few tracks, the nerves and tension begin to slip away and HOaC really click into gear. The crowd are swept along with the dark grooves and colossal riffery of Shade and Deadweight, and the band reach their set apex on Skeletal 1: Mourning Repairs, which brings together bone-crushing brutality, technical prowess and Kaan’s most diverse vocals of the night. The future looks bright for their impressive second incarnation.
