GRAVEYARD

The Swedish rockers bring Peace to the UK this winter

How’s the rest of the year looking for graveyard?

TRULS MÖRCK (BASS): “Really good! The tour schedule this summer is busy but it’s going to be fun – we built up all our days off during the time we weren’t playing together last year so we’re looking forward to getting back. We wrote the songs for the new album, Peace, while keeping in mind that they’ll be performed live, so we made sure we knew how to play them live before we even recorded them. It’s been a while since we changed up our setlist after the last album in 2015, so we need some new blood in there.”

What’s your favourite touring memory so far?

“One of the best tours we’ve ever done was opening for Clutch and Mastodon in May 2015. We saw some amazing places and venues. Among them was the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, which is a cool experience. It’s a natural amphitheatre in a really beautiful setting in the Colorado mountains that’s been used for musical performances for as long as anyone can remember, the natives used it before it became a place for folk music and now it’s a kind of rock’n’roll venue. It was hard to tell the acoustics from the stage but people seemed to enjoy it.”

What do you guys get up to on your days off?

“If we’re not travelling through the day, which is usually the case, we have a party the night before so we use the day off to catch up on some rest. When we had a day off in New Orleans, we took a trip down to Bourbon Street and over to the St Louis Cemetery where they filmed Easy Rider. That was a really cool experience and I’m so glad I seized the day and went because most of the time on tour, you’re so tired you just want to sleep all day.”

What’s the most unusual thing you’ve seen in your crowds so far?

“It was really beautiful when we were playing The Siren at a festival in Belgium one time. This girl got lifted up by the audience and was floating around on people’s hands and heads throughout the entire six minutes of the song. She clearly wasn’t heavy but that’s some real performance on the crowd’s part!”
