Was death’n’roll really born in 1993 with Entombed’s

Hollowman EP? Xysma came from an even more foul and gory angle, with their earliest works being pure Carcass worship, but by the time the Finnish four-piece hit Sunlight Studio – the Stockholm death metal scene’s base of operations, and where Entombed recorded their early albums – in 1991 to forge their debut album, their home country’s uniquely psychotic temper had already caught up with them. If their Swedish peers were transfixed by their late discovery of MC5 and the Stooges, Xysma were drawn to hallucinogenic and weird late-60’s psychedelic rock, those strains clashing with grotesque grindcore in the most peculiar way.
