PROPHECY PRODUCTIONS AGALLOCH AND GIANT SQUID RENEGADES TAKE A NEW DYSTOPIAN ANGLE

Comprised of former members of Agalloch and Giant Squid, Khôrada seem to take great pleasure in unburdening sonic shackles. Their debut album is a warped lens through which to view our warped reality: an abstract lament at the woeful nature of man, from the twisted depiction of the human form on the record’s cover, to the likes of Seasons Of Salt’s doomy melancholy and BM spasms envisioning a cannibalistic future. The carnivalesque Water Rights chronicles the Standing Rock debacle, a theatre of tragedy mocking human absurdity. Only two minutes long, Augustus cuts to the core, a solitary lamentation for a lost child. Ossify, with its strains of dystopian synth, atonally charismatic leads and gothic croon brings a svelte close to a record that keeps you guessing, as emotively tragic as it is full of quirk and character.
