BLOOD HARVEST DANISH DEATH METAL DEVIANTS LAY OUT THEIR PALL

Aside from a brief period centred around the Progress/Diehard label in the second half of the 90s (Dominus, Illdisposed, Infernal Torment etc), there’s never been a typical Danish death metal sound. But lately, in between the rise of the Killtown Deathfest in Copenhagen and newer acts such as Undergang, Phrenelith and Deiquisitor, a foul and downtuned fume seems to be hanging in the air. A newish band rising from the ashes of Reverie, Taphos share some of the same values yet don’t use the same weapons. On the back of a compilation of all their early works from 2016-18, their first proper full-length vomits early Morbid Angel with a renewed sense of urgency, à la Verminous, fusing early Floridian madness with a Swedish sense of dread. Yet the overall sonic clarity and serpentine melodies ooze a mammoth confidence rarely found in such a young band.
