THE TIGHT DEATHROPE ACT OVER RUBICON

HELLS HEADBANGERS POLISH METAL SQUARE PEGS FALL A FEW RIFFS SHORT OF REVELATION

Polish extreme and underground metal is in particularly good health, with the continuing international celebration of successful contemporary bands complemented by a slowly growing recognition for more cult acts. Quite where Throneum fit into that narrative is debatable; having been extremely prolific for the last two decades, they remain overlooked by many black and death metal fans. Part of that is probably down to their genreblurring sound – a morbid metal mix that draws from both black and death metal, recalling everyone from Sadistik Exekution to Mayhem. While the band claim “No originality, no own style, no musical progress…” their songwriting undoubtedly displays a certain individuality, with plenty of oddly incongruous interludes and ideas springing up amongst the raw and chaotic barbarism. Pleasingly old school, though it lacks the big riffs necessary to embed it to memory.
