Type O Negative OCTOBER RUST
Roadrunner SEPTEMBER 1996
Despite the warm reaction to his band’s previous album, Bloody
Kisses, back in 1996 bassist/ frontman Peter Steele was best known to some for an appearance in Playgirl magazine. Hammer’s reviewer Paul Henderson believed
October Rust would change all of that. “Quite simply, it puts the band’s previous output in the shade,” he wrote. Awarding four out of five, he suggested its contents “could quite easily be the soundtrack for a dark, gothic movie: sonically dense, mid-paced throughout, yet grindingly insistent and dripping with a heavy, brooding echo”, also factoring in the “marked improvement in terms of songwriting” that had begun with Bloody Kisses. The results were “unexpectedly powerful, dynamic and successful”.
