CROSSFAITH

Ex Machina UNFD Japan’s future-shock rockers lose sight of their destiny

- LUKE MORTON

Oh Crossfaith, what happened? Six years ago they were being hailed as one of the best new bands on the planet, but now, three albums later, they still haven’t lived up to their potential. The intro track hypes up with sirens blaring, but adrenaline levels fall off a cliff into an album made of wipeclean plastic. The hooks might get your head moving but nothing reacts with the grey matter inside. For an album comprised of 13 tracks, three feature guest vocalists and there’s a cover of Linkin Park’s Faint (which Did. Not. Need. To. Happen.) – as if the Osaka quintet are running low on ideas. Daybreak hits hard with its BFMV-esque riffs and Enter Shikari fans will dig Freedom, but for an album set in the future, it’s disappointing that Crossfaith still can’t live up to their past. FOR FANS OF: ENTER SHIKARI, COLDRAIN, MISS MAY I
