Operation Misdirection CANDLELIGHT

- STEPHEN HILL

Blistering Italian thrashers take a bizarre detour With Power Trip and Havok having raised the bar for the newer school of thrash bands quite considerably over the last couple of years, there is a chance that the third album from Italian quartet Ultra-Violence would have made little dent in our scene. Put simply, Operation Misdirection is a pretty decent new breed of old-school thrash record, with a nice dollop of popping bass to go along with its Megadeth-heavy technical riffing – Nomophobia being probably the best example of Ultra-Violence getting it really right. But then, halfway through the record, the band drop a cover of Dire Straits’ classic Money

For Nothing that’s so ludicrous and absurd an idea that you just have to take a second to sit back and admire their balls. It’s such a moment of genius lunacy that it steals the whole album, making Operation Misdirection something that you need to hear at least once. FOR FANS OF: HAVOK, MEGADETH, DIRE STRAITS
