Rodent Epoch
RODENTLORD
SATURNAL
Finland’s Rodent Epoch play a filthy punk-infused style of black metal that conjures all the appropriate imagery suggested by their moniker and lyrical themes. Their debut album combines the second-wave black metal minimalism of Moonfog Records-era Darkthrone with the upbeat punk vitality of GBH and Discharge, similar to fellow countrymen Satanic Warmaster´s earlier days. Rodent Epoch’s rotten leather-clad assault serves to desecrate the purple robes, scented candles and arcane scripture of black metal’s current leanings and strives for a return to darker days of the genre’s more primitive Xeroxed demo era. Vocals range between a sawdust-throated black metal rasp to snotty punk snarls, and the band’s primitive sound and glass-cutting basic blast captured in a raw lo-fi production hints that Rodent Epoch must convey their message of rotten punk nihilism extremely effectively in a live setting.
