ANIMUS DOMINI
FOUR POST-MILLENNIAL BEHEMOTH CUTS
Thelema.6 AVANTGARDE MUSIC – 2000
Behemoth’s caustic fifth album set a template for their post-millennial trajectory, better integrating the black and death metal while stacking up loads of mad ideas and tempo changes. Inferno’s drums deserved a less processed sound, though.
Zos Kia Cultus (Here And Beyond) AVANTGARDE MUSIC – 2002
Zeroing in on their death metal tendencies, Zos… also flaunted atmospheric Middle eastern themes, sludgy riffs and incendiary bursts of twin guitar in service of some of their most ravishingly occult material. “Raise thy horns…”
Demigod REGAIN – 2004
More brutal, more chaotic, more epic, more everything, Demigod ratcheted all the extremities up to 11 and was ecstatically received by press and punter alike; it was Behemoth’s first lP to make the Polish album chart, peaking at Number 15.
Evangelion NUCLEAR BLAST – 2009
By now Behemoth were topping the Polish album chart, Nergal was continuing to dredge his soul for the weirdest, darkest riffs and solos, and Inferno was morphing into a mechanised octopus, pushing speed and precision to new levels.
