SILENT PLANET
When The End Began
UNFD Progressive metalcore with a weighty philosophical bent With third album When The
End Began, this Californian progressive metalcore outfit Silent Planet explore “the obscure and mystical Nietzschean concept of ‘Eternal Return’ as it relates to the human experience.” Vocalist Garrett Russell manages to channel some of the cool swagger that makes Every Time I Die’s Keith Buckley such a compelling presence on occasion, especially during third track Northern Fires
(Guernica). Like a lot of metalcore, the juxtaposition between clean and heavy vocals jars at points, but Silent Planet have enough intricate guitar parts and ambient synth textures to keep your attention and mark them out from their peers. New guitarist, Mitchell Stark steps up ably to fill the hole that some may fear was left once long-time member Spencer Keene departed, but the majority of When The End
Began’s best ideas spill forth from Stark’s six strings.
