GOD COMPLEX

We’ve had enough of brilliant new hardcore bands. Just kidding…

- WORDS: JAMES WEAVER

They may NOT even be a year old yet, but Merseyside’s God Complex are wasting no time in cementing their place in heavy music. Their dissonant, no-bullshit brand of hardcore holds its own against the weight of pack leaders Code Orange, and as vocalist Harry Rule explains, theirs is a movement gaining serious traction:

“There has always been hardcore and we don’t exactly fit straight into that, but there’s this new, vibrant scene that is emerging. Since Code Orange and Knocked Loose started making such major waves in America, we’ve made a new scene.”

It seems there is an ultimately unsurprising correlation between the momentum of this new scene and the declining state of Western society. Created Sick, God Complex’s visceral first studio outing, dives head-first into the depravity of the modern world, and for Harry and his bandmates, they are only getting started.

“Reagan-era America produced some really amazing music and we’re kind of in the same political climate today – not just the UK, but also in America and the Western world,” he says. “What happens in America echoes over here, it’s just as important, and what’s going on in America is fucking insane. We’re not too bad off for inspiration at the minute!”
