UK tech metalcore outfit return with a tuneful face

There’s a simplicity of movement on Breathe Again, balanced by both musical depth and a robust edge

– all of which makes this third album an impressive step forward. Back in action after splitting up four years ago, Ravenface have a new vitality which comes through on the likes of Tyrants & Kings and The Line. The band’s metalcore roots are intact, but they’ve developed a new, broader sound. James Denton’s vocals are dosed with conviction, and the guitars of Leah Woodward and James Ormond Prout combine with purposeful virtuosity, while never being over-elaborate. Occasionally the band seem to be a little too formulaic, as on Fighters, but for the most part Breathe Again is a strong return.
