Whisky-steeped riffage from the bottom of the barrel

These Texans deal in some dense, stodgy, whiskybellied stuff that’s less the joyous clatter of iron-shod hooves than a stumbling clip-clop bound for the glue factory. Caught somewhere between retro rock and hoary sludge, the band deal in ponderous, ably played riffs and craggy sneers, all of which do benefit from a booming production job. But there’s something desperately unfulfilling about the whole experience. The pedestrian vocal lines and sixth-form lyrics are wince-inducing, bound to a plodding pace. By the time you get to closer Pray For Rain – replete with heavyhanded samples and softporn guitar solo – you’re praying for something else entirely. It comes as no surprise to learn that three of the members previously served with sophomoric nu metal/industrial also-rans Pitbull Daycare.
