BLACK FUTURES

The UK’s industrial oddities head to Download in June… once they’re done dodging scorpions

-

How was 2018 for you? Space:

“Intense! There has been a lot of behind-the-scenes activity bringing the music and the worldwide Black Futures Expedition Club members together. our Joshua Tree, Tokyo and Berlin club meetings were all the right kind of weird and wild…”

what was your personal highlight?

“Playing a show for our new comrades deep in the Mojave desert. Such brutal landscape is very humbling. Vibes stepped on a scorpion before the show. That and the energy in the pit at our Reading Festival expedition.”

Did you set yourselves any goals and how close did you come to meeting them?

“As long as we’re living weird and staying free, we’re rich. That perfect blend of compassion and anarchy. We don’t really give two fucks about goals… We know where we are going and where we’re going, we don’t need roads!”

Black futures seem to delight in a bit of theatre…

“We believe our shows should be a chaotic display of compassionate connection. A true spectacle. It’s all there to pull you into the energy and abandon of the music. To help you turn down your ‘me tv’ and have an actual, shared experience.”

Do you ever worry that everyone talks about the ‘Black futures experience’ so much that it might detract from the music?

“no, not at all. You come on an Expedition with us for an experience, as part of the club. Then we hit you with some sonic shock therapy and we all share a connection and feel like we belong to something. The music will stay with us all.”

what can we expect from your Download set in June?

“Absolute mayhem. Just pure energy. Total heaviness and reckless abandon!”

what else will 2019 hold for Black futures?

“We will be taking our family out on the road with lots of new music to make friends. Pure tunnel vision, man!”
