GHOST BATH

MØL

-

ELECTROWERKZ, LONDON

The Electrowerkz might be best known for its industrial goth nights, but tonight something altogether more bleak is taking over its darkened, smoke-filled halls. Standing onstage in a flurry of monochrome strobes and lush blue lights, underground favourites MØL blast through choice cuts from debut album Jord, bringing their shimmering, spacious blackgaze to north London and adding a touch of frost to this autumnal evening. Vocalist Kim Song is still staking his claim as one of the most enthralling frontmen in metal, grimacing and posturing at every opportunity, throwing himself into the stark soundscapes. Headliners GHosT BATH are a more foreboding prospect, looming over the crowd, clad in black, hurtling through an hour of their postblack metal misery. Nameless has ditched his signature piercing shrieks for a more earthy, guttural growl, adding a different dimension to their songs of sorrow, but it’s a shame their standout sound has been lost. The crowd begins to thin as the set thunders on, but their chilling cacophony resonates with those who remain and submit to the mourning. It’s a solid set from Ghost Bath, but the real news is that Møl are primed and ready for bigger things. LUKE MORTON
