INCITE
Built To Destroy
MInUsHEAD Phoenix, Arizona quartet fail to set their groove metal alight Thanks to veterans like Devildriver and a slew of newcomers such as Alien Weaponry and Prognosis, groove metal is nearing over-saturation. To excel in this scene, bands are being forced to not only create the heaviest hooks, but also imbue them with unique twists. Incite do neither of those things here. Instead, Richie Cavalera and co keep their methodology close to the straightforward bang of Hatebreed and early Machine Head, never deviating from fast-paced, three-minute jams. And while there are standout tracks, like Human Cancer and Savior Self, the majority of Incite’s fifth album loses its impact thanks to overly persistent genre loyalty.
Built To Destroy could be a hit among unwavering followers of 90s metal, but for those who actually want their metal to evolve, this is a release you can safely overlook.
