KARYBDIS
In The Shadow Of Paradise
SELF-RELEASED UK metallers hone their bloodsoaked progressive edge
Stood at the precipice of a decade of activity, UK quintet Karybdis present their third exploratory dive into a gnarled world of blackened progressive metal. In The Shadow Of Paradise stands tall, steeped in melodic grandeur and shrouded in bittersweet darkness. Chilling piano instrumentation adds a suitably gothic indulgence to the likes of Manifestation and Chapters, but these moments of tranquillity are fleeting. For the most part, the album hurtles through a forest of powerful, razorblade riffs and percussive fury – equal parts exciting and imposing – that will undoubtedly resonate with fans of The Black Dahlia Murder. Like a bottle of vintage red wine, Karybdis only get better with age.
