The Quest

MIGHTY MU­SIC Tales of high ad­ven­ture, played on shaky mu­si­cal ter­rain Blackdraft’s sec­ond re­lease is a con­cept al­bum in­volv­ing Ice­landic ex­plor­ers and sea mon­sters that dwell in the eerie depths – the kind of sto­ry­line Amon Amarth might cook up on their long­boat af­ter too much grog. The Ger­man quin­tet cer­tainly aren’t short on am­bi­tion or cre­ativ­ity, but the foun­da­tions are formed out of in­con­sis­tent melodic metal. The el­e­ments are there: strong clean vo­cals from Ju­lia Dorothee Wal­le­nius, rip­pling gui­tar leads from Karsten Wal­le­nius and en­er­getic, mem­o­rable songcraft on
