CRANEIUM
The Narrow Line
RIPPLE muSIc Finnish stoner-psych with an epic and eccentric twist It’s a safe bet that this Finnish quartet have been listening to the MeteorCity Records box set; their fatbottomed jams fall right into place with that label’s rollcall of desert rock and psych-sludge. The theme of now-defunct labels is extended by closing freakout Man’s Ruin, named after the 90s imprint that gave us key releases by QOTSA, Kyuss, Orange Goblin etc. Those rosters provide a mass foundation for Craneium’s woofer-blowing basement vibes, but there’s a streak of dual-vocal free-thinking and genuine eccentricity, suggesting an instinctive bond with the original psychedelic generation, and a feel for mellow atmospheres suggesting many a night in with Pink Floyd.
