50 YEARS OF METAL
Isn’t that wild? This year marks five whole decades since Black Sabbath (properly) formed and began the journey that would change music forever. So, to celebrate, we thought we’d do something a little historic ourselves: put together a mammoth, special-edition feature that takes you through all five decades of heavy metal history so far. From the rumblings that began right back in ’69 (and no, Sabbath weren’t the only band laying down the foundations…) to metal’s bombastic 80s heyday, right through to the modern classics we’ve witnessed grace the scene in recent years.
Oh, and we also called up 50 of our favourite metal artists and got them to pick the 50 greatest albums ever made. Think it’s just gonna be the same old roll call of Master Of Puppets, Number Of The Beast and Reign In Blood? Think again, my friends. If you want to argue the toss over the albums that made the list (and, indeed, those that didn’t), we very much invite you to over at facebook.com/metalhammerreaders. The fun doesn’t end there, though.
