MOTTOW SOUNDZ A prog/psych powerhouse from the weirder end of Belgium

On their second album, this Belgian trio have proved the most effective tricks are often the simplest. Their self-titled 2015 debut channelled QOTSA at their thumpiest, but Sun Rose is wilder and meatier. It veers between Mastodon stoner/ sludge attacks and upbeat Torche-esque melodies, constantly shifting in pace while maintaining a satisfying heaviness. One second Hunt The Hunter is roaring and rocket-fuelled, the next it’s as monstrous as a fuzzy-headed dinosaur.

Unreal is like being lost in a dense labyrinth, chased by an axe-wielding Josh Homme. Flying Poney is a monster jam breaking through an acid-fried, psych-noise crust. A straight-to-the-jugular rock record that’s quick to reveal its charms.
