WINDSWEPT
The Onlooker
SEASON OF MIST
Ukrainian BM standard bearers forge a stripped-down alter ego
With Windswept comprised of three Drudkh members, you could be forgiven a sense of familiarity before a note even hits your ears.
The Onlooker, however, is a more pared-down, and more emotionally nostalgic affair. At times you could be forgiven for thinking you had accidentally hit repeat; from the first track,
Stargazer, Windswept have found their sound and stuck firmly to it – perhaps the only slight on the short and improvised recording process. Yet repeated listens do reveal organic and rich drum work during Gustav
Meyrink’s Prague and the pure, raw emotion in
Roman Saenko’s voice on
Insomnia Of The Old Men is
a wonder to behold. The
Onlooker isn’t genreshattering but there’s no doubt as to its passion.
