ANY GIVEN DAY
Proving they’re so much more than just that metal Rihanna cover…
video go viral? Marketing teams and influencers have been trying to work it out for years. No one expected five German metallers and a gnarled-up version of a Rihanna song to achieve it in 2013. “We’re not just the band!” insists Any Given Day frontman Dennis Deihl, but nonetheless it was their cover of RiRi’s banger that gave them a platform from which to thrive… and they ran with it.
Now, big numbers are commonplace for the guys, with recent single racking up 2 million views, a feat that only seems to push the band further.
“We never wanted to be the band that just makes hardcore or metalcore,” Dennis confirms. “With each album we want to develop ourselves and create a new sound that people don’t know. We wanted to do everything we love – a journey through the music we’ve been listening to over the years.” That journey has led to third album
which flaunts its influences. There’s the seething nu metal rap that opens up the djent breakdown that erupts in with touches of Killswitch Engage running across both the band’s core sound and the thundering growls and explosive cleans of Dennis’s vocals.
Ultimately, it’s probably luck that grants you a viral video, but to cultivate a following like Any Given Day’s requires much more. For Dennis the key is originality: “You hear so much music from so many bands, but sometimes they’re so similar. With Any Given Day, we have created our own sound.”
