Shadowy Death disciples get a new lease of life

Initiated four years ago by anonymous, if secretly experienced musicians in tribute to classic death metal – and early Death in particular – the band formerly known as Undead have not only expanded their name but their horizons, too. The ghost of Chuck Schuldiner still looms heavily, but unlike the exercise in style that is Gruesome, Undead Prophecies are starting to think outside of the box. The tempo overall is faster while a darker, occasionally doomy vibe still suggests Leprosy after a lengthy sunbathe on the shores of the river Styx. And since this operation is commanded by obvious veterans who know exactly what they’re doing, it’s damn tempting to just play the game. ■■■■■■■■■■
