Your new album, Metawar, drops July 5. How does your sound now compare to the era?

Alexis Mincolla (vocals): “The production is so much stronger now with Sean Beavan at the helm – obviously he’s produced records for the likes of Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails. We also knew that we wanted to make songs that would just absolutely bang live and wreck crowds. We wanted it to have that energy and it does. There’s a little bit of that nu metal jump to it. It’s such a dirty word but we grew up on this shit! Nu metal and industrial have an interesting relationship and we’re playing with it on this record.”

The latest single is Exxxit and it’s entirely #NSFW tell us about the concept behind the video?

“There are a lot of weird undertones. It’s this trichotomy that we are playing off as we love playing with the concept of threes. Exiting something is often difficult and sometimes people find themselves urging towards self-destruction as a form of liberation. It’s like the 9-5 work week where, come 5pm Friday, we just want to go out and get fucking obliterated.”

. Can you

was a very conceptual record. Does Metawar follow in the same vein?

“It’s sort of a world vs world situation. There’s a lot of bigger, more abstract concepts at work – like accelerationism, the relationship between automation and cyberspace, capitalism. The political heresy of where it all goes. There’s a lot of dots to connect – I almost don’t wanna reveal too much yet because to me there’s a lot of fun in allowing people to discover stuff.”

You’re about to hit Europe and the UK for some dates supporting Ministry. This makes us very happy. How did this unholy union happen?

“We’ve been friends with them for a while now; we’ve got a nice little bromance! Having grown up listening to Ministry, the fact that we’re getting to go out on tour with them for me is almost like a torch-passing – it just had to happen!”

What can we expect from these shows?

“We’re focusing on the new material. We’re gonna carve out the most fucking potent part of our headlining set into 30-40 minutes. And to bring as much firepower as we can!” MINISTRY 3TEETH
