Weirdo de Janeiro

More than a million rabid fans and a host of rock legends… it was inevitable that Rock In Rio would produce some, er, unusual anecdotes

-

MIKE BORDIN (FAITH NO MORE) “people would find a good spot and just stay there the whole time and never really leave. that means the space was their toilet as well… we got onstage and this light breeze came in, bringing with it a tidal wave smell of human shit. thousands of people – crazy, man!”

KLAUS MEINE (SCORPIONS) “the best parties were at the copacabana. We had a friend who worked with Queen, and when we hung out with him the most important thing on his mind wasn’t Freddie mercury or meeting ac/Dc; it was hanging out with ronnie Biggs, the train robbery guy!”

BILLY GOULD (FAITH NO MORE) “We got invited to some after-party and prince was there in a corner room. We talked at him for a while and he just looked at us, never saying a word back – and we were talking for a good five minutes. later, we ran into prince’s manager and told him our story. he nodded and just said, ‘I used to have these calls with him where I’d tell him about what was happening in his career, and he’d just hang up whenever he felt like it. he never responded.’ I guess he was like that with everyone!”
